Unique student sports clubs in Enschede

Looking for a sport that lets you forget about all those upcoming deadlines? Or do you want to stay active in your free time? Enschede is not only a student city, but also offers a unique range of sports. In addition to the large clubs, you'll also find sports groups that are just that little bit different.

1. Twentse Thestrals zwerkbal

Feel like trying something different than football? Do you feel like trying something different than football? Visit the Twentse Thestrals and ‘jump’ on a broomstick (a one-meter PVC pipe). The Thestrals are anything but standard, and you don't need a letter of admission from Hogwarts to join. In zwerkbal (also known as quadball), you play with seven players divided into four positions. Each player has their own task: the three chasers and a keeper try to score by throwing a volleyball into the opponent's hoops. The seeker tries to end the game by catching the flag. Don't lose your broom, or you'll be knocked off by the opponent's beater!

2. Twentse Studenten Alpen Club

If you're looking to escape the city for mountains, fresh air, and adventure, the Twentse Studenten Alpen Club is the place to be. Here, you can go bouldering, ski touring, or wall climbing. Don't be fooled: the TSAC has several climbing walls, each requiring strength and skill. While you'll puzzle over routes and blocks as you climb, safety always comes first. Safety is carefully checked, and belays are properly secured, especially for the 35-meter-high outdoor climbing wall at the University of Twente. The TSAC is the perfect place to add a healthy dose of adventure to your student years.

3. Air Nomads Ultimate Frisbee

You'll never be bored at the University of Twente. Ultimate Frisbee with the Air Nomads has grown from a hobby into a real sports club. It's all about speed, agility, and lightness (literally and figuratively). You play with two teams of seven players each. The goal: to get the frisbee to the ‘end zone’ on the other side of the field. You are not allowed to touch each other and the player with the frisbee is not allowed to move. So think carefully about your next move.

4. Blueshell game en Esports

At Blueshell, you don't have to step onto a sports field, because gaming is the sport. Relax, play with passion, or discover new games. The club is accessible, meaning you can join without pressure. Prefer competition? Then you're in the right place too: teams participate in real esports tournaments. Blueshell has its own Esports Lounge on the University of Twente campus where something happens almost every day, such as game nights and tournaments. The place to find your new favorite game and new friends.

5. De Klocus klonkieball

If you know flunkyball, then klonkieball won't be entirely unfamiliar to you. Klonkieball at De Klocus is a simple sport, and that's what makes it so much fun. What do you need? A 500 ml can of beer, a shoe, an empty plastic bottle, and two teams. You and your teammates prepare your drinks and take turns throwing your shoe (or ball) at the bottle in the middle of the field. If you hit the bottle, your team gets to drink while the other team puts the bottle back upright. The first team to finish their drinks wins. No complicated tactics, just lots of fun.

6. LEAP Roundnet

Roundnet, also known as spikeball, is a fast-paced and addictive sport. LEAP is the first student association in Enschede to focus on this sport. You play with four players around a mini trampoline and hit the ball onto the net, running and diving to prevent the other team from returning it. The great thing about roundnet is that you don't need expensive equipment or experience. You grab the ball, step onto the field, and you're immediately part of the game. Ideal for anyone who can't sit still.

7. Phoenix Lacrosse Enschede

An American sports tradition, right here in Enschede. Lacrosse is a sport about tactics and team spirit, and Phoenix is the place to experience it. Phoenix Enschede started with a group of friends who wanted to challenge themselves and has grown into an active student club since 2004. While the sport used to be about defending territory, these days it's all about community and having fun. With a stick in your hand and a team around you, you run across the field, trying to score. Besides the competition, there are also regular pub quizzes, barbecues and other activities.
