Groot Brunink
Groot Brunink is a beautiful estate, in which forests, wooded banks, meadows and arable land alternate.
A special estate on the south side of Enschede.
The 99-acre estate includes forests and wooded banks interspersed with meadows and fields. To the south runs the Bruninksbeek. The history of Groot Brunink goes back to the 14th century. On the estate lies the imposing historic farm complex 'Hof Brunink'. Hof Brunink is a characteristic Twente farm of the halle house type and dates from the middle of the 19th century. At the front is lived, at the rear are the stables. Typical of the traditional Twente farmhouse are the gabled roofs covered with red tiles and the wooden cladding in the gables.
The area is intersected by a few dirt roads. Most of it is formed by a weakly undulating soil moraine landscape. In the north, the relief is stronger because here a cover sand ridge and the valley of the Bruninksbeek occur right next to each other, resulting in height differences of about 3m.
In the woods along the creek consisting mainly of oak and beech, yellow deadnettle, daleweed, muskwort and holly, among others, can be found. This deciduous forest transitions into a coarse pine forest. The forests in the southern part of the estate consist mainly of Scots pine and Norway spruce with oak here and there. The area has 58 different breeding birds and numerous butterfly species. It is also home to many mammals such as deer, squirrel, rabbit, hare, mole and pine marten.
You can walk freely on roads and paths except in the yards of farms and homes. In addition to Groot Bruninksweg, the estate is also accessible via and Kwekkeboomweg.
